BlogRush shut down

BlogRush which created a wave when launched in late 2007 has now shut down. It has served 3.4 billion blog post headlines and the BlogRush widgets could be seen on blogs all over the world. But unfortunately it didn’t quite work out the way its founder John Reese wanted it to be. So I will now remove the widget from my blogs. RIP BlogRush.

Affiliate Marketing With Blogs

Tag:, , ,

Affiliate marketing is a fanstastic way to make money from your blog. After all, affiliate marketing comes with zero-risk, high margin monetization model especially if you’re promoting digital goods like e-books, software or even themes and templates. There is no need for customer support emails to answer and if done correctly it can be totally hands-free, putting passive income in your pocket in the future years to come.

However, there are a few important things you need to know when trying to promote affiliate products from your blog. These things are important to make ensure you don’t burn a hole in your pocket.

(1) Which Products Do You Promote?

You’ll notice that almost all products have an affiliate program that you can participate (mostly for free), and start promoting online from your blog. Depending on the type of product, your commissions varies from 2% to 8% (physical goods) or even up to 75% for digital goods. There are many  products to choose from, but that doesn’t mean that you should go out all the way to promote all the products you can get hold on!

Not all products are the same - some are better that others. Not all affiliate opportunities are created equal either. Just because a product is excellent, it doesn’t mean that it will sell. The “conversion rate” of a product depends entirely on a few things out of your control, for example the sales copy, the overall sales process and the available market for the product.

However, learning how to recognize good products to promote is something totally in your control. When you learn to recognize a few important clues, you’ll be able to tell if an affiliate product will sell from your blog, or if it will just waste precious pages of your blog. One good guide that teaches you how to find great affiliate products is “Super Affiliate Blogger” by Gobala Krishnan:

(2) Getting Traffic to Your Blog

Content is important, but traffic is even more important. Without enough traffic to be making a few affiliate sales a month, you’ll eventually give up on blogging altogether. Great content on the other hand, gets better appreciation when you learn how to get traffic to your blog.

While the normal methods work, there are a few things you can do to drive more traffic. For starters, you can easily get cheap banner advertising on other related blogs who can divert tons of traffic to you. By creating a good banner and ensuring startegic placement, you can start getting fresh and quality new traffic everyday.

Another effective but more sophisticated way of getting traffic is using PPC or Pay Per Click advertising. Google AdWords is probably the most popular PPC advertising service, but there are other alternatives as well. However, remember that when you’re paying for every click to your website, you’ll want maximize your returns by creating a “landing page” on your blog. The concept of landing pages and how to do it is also explained in Super Affiliate Blogger:

(3) Tracking Your Affiliate Links

If you’re just promoting a handful of affiliate links on a few of your pages, you can easily keep track of what’s going on. However if you start to venture further and try to put your affiliate links on many pages and on different blogs, you’re looking at a lot of work when it comes to managing and tracking those links.

Any experienced affiliate marketer would invest in some sort of link cloaking / tracking software that at the click of a button, will give you the “big picture” of what’s happening with your affiliate marketing campaign. This will tell you which affiliate links are being clicked on, and which ones aren’t seeing any action. How else can you determine which products aren’t selling well, and which ones are working great for your particular blog?

Although there are many affiliate tracking tools, this one is perhaps the most suited to bloggers, especially if you’re using WordPress:

Affiliate marketing is easy, simple and fun. But to break the barriers and start making a five-figure monthly income from your blog, you’ll need to think and act like a “Super Affiliate” These guys aren’t any smarter than you or me; they just do the right things at the right time. AdSense Blogging - Review of WordPress AdSense System

Tag:, , ,

Google AdSense has been talked about, hyped about and even criticized over the past year. Meanwhile

, WordPress has emerged as one of the most popular blogging platforms used by almost all A-list bloggers. What do these two have in common?

I just came across Gobala Krishnan’s “WordPress AdSense System” course that merges the two, showing you how to create “autopilot sites” that make money from AdSense:

http://www.webtrafficjuggernaut.com/vlt/links/63530

Here’s my review of the product, and why you should get yourself a copy.

(1) Overall Impression

When I read that this product has been selling well since 2006, I was pretty relievedand happy. That’s because most ebook guides fizzle out and get outdated within six months. Gobala actually updates this guide from time to time to keep it updated with all the changes taking place in the blogging world and community. In fact according to Gobala the only changes he makes are the screenshots and URLs. There is no need to update the tactics and strategies mentioned in the book as they are time-tested and will work for anyone, for the foreseeable future.

(2) The E-book Guide and Tips

Flipping through the main e-book guide (over 150 pages), I find that the earlier sections are perfect for the new beginners to blogging. It explains in detail common blogging terms, how blogging works, and what to expect when starting a blog. Then Gobala goes into more technical, advanced stuff including how to change a WordPress blog into a static website, how to optimize your blog, and also how to get the much needed traffic to your blog.

Even if you’re familiar to Google AdSense or WordPress, you can find a lot of useful information in here. Here’s the website again:

(3) AdSense-ready WordPress Themes

This was what actually caught my attention in the first place - 30 super-cool looking WordPress themes that are “AdSense ready”. This means that the AdSense codes have already been placed in the theme in strategic places. All you need to do is enter your AdSense publisher IDs and you’re done with it.

I think the theme alone are worth more than what the whole system costs, and by looking at them I’m sure they can generate a lot of decent click-throughs for your blog if you were to use them. After all with Google AdSense you make more money when you  get more traffic or get more clicks.

(4) Keyword Research Tools

A simple but extensive and useful keyword research tool is also included in WordPress AdSense System. Keyword research is a must if you’re trying to build auto-pilot AdSense blogs since most of your traffic will be coming from search engines like Google. You need to ensure that you’re targeting the correct keywords before you write your first blog post!

The package also includes “180 Profitable AdSense Niche Keywords”, which is a heavy MS Excel sheet containing thousands of keywords Gobala has researched before. Of course you cannot depend on this data alone, but it’s a good place to start off some ideas of your own. There are basically thousands of niche markets out there you can venture into that are probably easier to earn an income other than the niche you’re in right now.

(5) My Conclusion and Recommendation

I’m very happy with WordPress AdSense System by Gobala Krishnan. I’ve bought a few such courses before but Gobala’s course doesn’t disappoint. In fact I found it easy to read and follow. There are also a lot of video tutorials you can watch where Gobala shows you step-by-step, exactly what you need to do.
