Findability

When I first came across this word, I thought that I have read it wrongly or maybe there is a spelling mistake or somewhat.

Then when I read the full article, I realised how important this word is. Be it in the brick and mortar business world or in the internet cyberspace, findability is necessary for the business to survive, not to mention successful.

When you start a traditional business for example a franchise business, the first thing that you need to consider is the location. A good location with lots of traffic ( when I mention traffic, I mean customers or potential customers) will determine whether your franchise business will be successful or not. A florist who leases a lot adjacent to a large hospital will most likely to have good business. A fast food chain restaurant built nearby a high school with lots of teenagers students will see high sales volume. These are the example of good location.

If you start a business in a not so good location, you can still manage but you may have to incur lots of expenses in advertisements or awareness creation projects. Whether a business owner opted to pay higher premium to be located in a good location or has chosen to be located in a not so established spot and spend the savings on more marketing and awareness activities, the one thing they have in common is visibility.

So now that we know how important visibility is to a traditional business, the same apply to the internet business. Instead of visibility we called it findability. A strange word it seems. I have tried to find it in my Webster dictionary, but it was not listed. Whatever it is, it is an important word for any internet business. Can people find you or your products in this cyberworld? And just as important, can customers communicate effectively with you so that you can maximise customers retention? Companies with high findability will do well. When people search for your products or services, will they find you or your competitors?

So if your findabililty is poor, you need to step up in more awareness creating activities or else survival in this competitive cyberworld is tough.
